Chemistry is the branch of science that studies the composition, structure, and properties of matter and the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions.
The natural processes studied by chemistry involve fundamental particles (electrons, protons, and neutrons), composite particles (atomic nuclei, atoms, and molecules), or microscopic structures such as crystals and surfaces.
Based on the nature of the substances studied, scientists have traditionally divided chemistry into:
- Inorganic chemistry, which studies minerals, the structure, transformation, and properties of matter not formed by carbon chains.
- Organic chemistry, which studies compounds based on carbon chains and their synthesis.
